Ann B. Murphy

Ann B. Murphy lives and works in Oakland. She has a B.A. in French from the University of Kansas, and a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from The School of Visual Arts in New York. She is curating the 2019 Terrain Biennale in Oakland and has most recently participated in two artist residencies in Marnay-sur-Seine, France. Her international exhibits include the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid and at the Museo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico City. She has created projects for The High Desert Test Sites in Joshua Tree, Art Murmur in Oakland and the Kimberly Saari Gallery.

Language, literature and ancient stone places connect Murphy’s drawings and paintings to her sculptures and installations. She uses a color palette of reds and pinks to talk visually about poetry or fiction, and her degree in French is constant source of inspiration.
