A multi-media artist based in Printmaking. She weaves together the images from our everyday lives with scrapbook text and layers of color and texture through mainly printmaking and collage process. The photo images in her work are objects that we see in passing on the streets in our urban landscape. There is a reference to the ritual within the paths we take day by day. Dara also combines photographic imagery with text from the jargon in our minds combined with lyrics from songs to evoke a memory or a sense of deja vu, and daydreaming. The work is about our connection to our environment, and a reaction to sensory overload.
Artists that are influences for her are: Jean- Michele Basquiat and Robert Rauschenberg, also CY Twombly. She has always been influenced by gestural and expressionistic styles that are loose and exploratory within the making. The power of text or a word combined with an image has always been very important and key to evoking dialogue between her vision and the audience.
