Tallulah Terryll

I make paintings by hand, using custom stencils and acrylic. The patterns and forms I use come from botanical sources – pine cones, the tops of lily pads, microscopically enlarged slide specimens of willow bark – or repetitive patterns pulled from my environs. This piece for Hands and Pants uses a cut piece of paper similar to my stencils to trap the figure. Since the use of patterns and the patience involved in creating my paintings give them a calm sensibility falling somewhere between meditative and obsessive-compulsive I enjoy thinking of the figure being trapped in this space.
